TPAssist supports the ability to structure your activities into multiple maps. In addition, TPAssist
managed roll-up of priority, percent complete, flags, start-date and due-date across these maps
so you can quickly and easily appraise the status of your projects and activities.
Multi-map support enables you to build a layered series of linked maps to manage the
complexities of your daily activities.
As outlined above, Tree Update processes roll-up of task information between individual topics: in
the same map and also in other maps. This powerful feature is excellent for tracking
interdependency between groups of activities.
Your tracking and activity management possibilities can be extended to track journal activities
undertaken with- in your multi- map structure. In addition to the task detail roll- up achievable with
linked topics, the multi- map support will give you visibility of actions taken towards completing
your tasks. This is achieved by linking the Central topic of sub maps to the parent maps,
therefore allowing TPAssist to know where to add further journal entries and also where to update
parent task information.
This multi-map journal feature has two modes:
|
A. Simple sub-map
linkage
|
In this mode, Journal entries with-in your sub-maps will
be replicated into your parent maps. This processes is
performed as you create each entry (Using the Journal
Tab of the TPAssist Console).
|
|
B. Tree Structure
enabled sub-map linkage
|
In this mode, as well as Journal entries, the task
information from the sub map's central topic will be
copied up to the parent map's topic and then rolled-up
the map topic hierarchy.

Implementing "Simple sub-map linkage"
The process below outlines how to enable "Simple sub-map linkage". Further illustration can be
found in the TPAssist Tutorials, MODULE 5: Managing Complexity with Multiple Maps, STEP 3:
Create Parent Map & Linked sub- map.
1) Select the topic that will contain the link to a sub map.
2) From the toolbar, choose the Hyperlink tool (

)
3) In the select link dialogue, choose "Existing File or Web Page", then use the OPEN icon to find
your target sub- map. (NB: You may need to change the "Files of Type" at the bottom of this
dialogue to see your maps). Click OK to create the link.
4) Drop back into the sub map, by clicking on the link icon (

)
NOTE: If the target map isn't
initialised for TPAssist, click the Central Topic, open the TPAssist Console, open the Journal
Tab and create a NOTE journal entry to initialise the journal subtopic.
5) Select the Central Topic, then from the toolbar, choose the Hyperlink tool (

)
6) In the select link dialogue, choose "Existing File or Web Page", then use the OPEN icon to find
your PARENT sub-map. (NB: You may need to change the "Files of Type" at the bottom of this
dialogue to see your maps). Click OK to create the link.
7) Save the maps.
NOTE: Changes to sub map topic task information must be "extracted" either when "Multimap" is
selected in the Tree Update Tab of the TPAssist Console or by selecting the linked topic and
then selecting "Topic Update" from the topic's Right- Click context menu.
Implemented "Tree Structure enabled sub-map linkage"
1) Create the initial linkage as illustrated above.
2) In the sub map, select the Central Topic, then from the toolbar, choose the Hyperlink tool (

)
3) How choose the "Select Topic..." button.
4) Now expand the tree viewer and select the parent topic where the hyperlink was created above,
then click OK.
NOTE: Changes to sub map topic task information will now be automatically copied up to the
parent map every time the Journal Tab in the TPAssist console is used add
Journal Notes).
