TPAssist allows you to incorporate resource effort (Work), as well as Duration, in task topics.
To prepare for this illustration, create a simple map as per the example below: (These skills are
covered in earlier lessons except how to format hours to days)
Make sure "Financial Capabilities" are turned "ON" as per
STEP 1.
Before we can manage "work" we need to assign some costs to the resources (Fred and Bill).
1) Select "Task A" and open the TPAssist
Journal (Right-Click and choose "Journal" or hit
"Journal" in the TPAssist Ribbon. Now open the Advanced Task Details and then Click the
Resource selector:
2) Now click "Edit Resources"
3) Select "Bill" and then "Fred" and enter hourly rates of 100 and 150 respectively:
4) Click Save when done.
5) To finish, click "Cancel" and "Cancel" to close the Journal Tab.
Now that you have assigned costs to your resources, you can see and manage the work easily
with the Journal Tab.
6) Select "Task A" and open the TPAssist Journal (Right-Click and choose "Journal" or hit
"Journal" in the TPAssist Ribbon. Expose the Financial details in the left bottom panel by
clicking the Advanced Options button (>>>).
As illustrated in the Financial details, TPAssist has calculated the cost of the work using the
duration and also the hourly rate (assigned in step 3 above).
We can easily customise the work (effectively overriding the default behaviour of using the duration).
7 ) Click on the "2ds" in the "Work" row under the word "Estimate", then modify the value to 1.5,
then click Apply:
8) Now open the TPAssist Journal again (Right-Click and choose "Journal" or hit "Journal" in the
TPAssist Ribbon) to see the results:
You can as easily manage "Actual" and "Remaining" by just clicking on the value and modifying it.
By default "Actual" will equal the Estimate and "Remaining" is calculated by the task percent
complete.
HINT: If you want to undo your changes and return to the default and automatic behaviour, just
"double- Click" on the text entry box.
9) Save this map to your My Maps folder as "My Project - Financial" (so it can be used in
subsequent modules).
